7Hills EVP Bob Kennedy Addresses IWLA/WERC Conference in Chicago

Global solutions to IT development are providing a timely and exciting opportunity for the warehouse and distribution industry to dramatically impact business performance and gain a substantial competitive edge, through improved productivity and reduced costs.

That was the thrust of the enthusiastic message that 7Hills Executive Vice President for Business Development Bob Kennedy delivered to the 2007 Warehouse IT Information Technology Conference presented by the International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA) and the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) in Chicago last month. Kennedy was among a group of industry experts who presented the latest developments in technology solutions and capabilities to conference attendees, including IT managers, directors and executives; distribution professionals considering new technology implementation or evaluation; third party logistics providers and others in the supply chain industry who are interested in learning about cutting edge strategies.

In a presentation entitled "IT Partnering: The Promise and the Challenge," Kennedy shared insights and offered encouragement based on the 7Hills experience utilizing offshore development and partnering while outsourcing labor to facilities in Hyderabad, India. Kennedy spoke about the history of 7Hills and its emergence during the bubble of 1998, when the enormous demand for IT resources and programmers led the company to India. "The original motive in looking to India was to add capacity; the cost advantages were secondary," Kennedy told his audience. "Labor costs in India are significantly lower than costs in the U.S. and qualified, skilled labor is plentiful. The savings is passed on to the customer." Despite some challenges posed by distance, language, cultural differences and workforce fluidity, Indian outsourcing has proven to be highly successful for 7Hills, offering expansive capacity, faster processing and significantly reduced expenses.

According to Linda Wood, assistant vice-president for education for IWLA, "We appreciate Bob Kennedy's support of our program. His session was very well attended and enthusiastically received by the participants." IWLA is a trade association of warehouse logistics providers that assists members through exclusive benefits, products and resources. Based in Des Plaines, Illinois, IWLA serves as the voice of the industry, representing third party logistics and warehouse service providers throughout the USA and Canada. WERC is a professional organization focused on warehouse management and its role in the supply chain. Learn more...
